D&AD Pencils sharpened for the Adlab
The School of Communications via the BYU AdLab students won two D&AD Pencils this year. Congrats to Emma Higbee, Taylor Garrett, and Hope Knudson for winning a Yellow Pencil for their project, Reimagine for the Disney client brief https://www.dandad.org/awards/new-blood/2021/disney/3847/reimagine/ And congrats to Dillon Hansen and Kylie Romano for winning a Wood Pencil for their project, Protagonist for the Penguin client
Collegiate Effies won by The BYU ADLAB for BOSE
In one of the final advertising competitions of the awards season, The BYU AdlLab won the Collegiate Effies competition with a client challenge from BOSE, with the team of Sophie Haws, Isabel Huish, Hope Knudson, and Dillon Hansen awarded first place for their campaign “Make Your Future Sound” and crowned National Champions of the Collegiate Effies for 2021. (We also won this competition last year in 2020 for IBM and in 2019 for Subaru)
National Mosaic Award for Diversity and National Addy wins

Adlab Ranked #1 Internationally by the One Club for Creativity
The BYU AdLab was ranked the #1 creative program in the world, by the One Club for Creativity, beating out entire Colleges, Art Schools, and Advertising Portfolio Schools from around the globe. We ranked #2 in this competition the last three years, and this year we broke out and won School of the year and ranked #1.
Big Showing from the Adlab at the 2021 Effie Collegiate Challenge
The School of Communications via the BYU AdLab had an amazing showing in the 2020/21 Effie Collegiate Bose Brand Challenge.
Semi-finalists in the Collegiate EFFIE Competition
The Collegiate EFFIEs announced the semifinalists and the School of Communications via the BYU AdLab had four teams move on in the prestigious competition for the 2021 Bose Challenge. After placing seven teams in the Quarterfinals, the BYU Adlab has now placed four in the semifinals. Adlab grabs 7 CLIO AWARDS
The School of Communications via the BYU AdLab has been awarded 7 top honors in the CLIO Awards! Congrats to all of the student teams and their amazing creative work!
BYU Steals Half of the ANDY AWARD SHORTLIST
The BYU AdLab has 16 shortlisted entries in the International ANDY Awards. Almost half of all shortlisted entries from all over the world are from the AdLab. It’s a huge honor! Congrats to all of the students who worked so hard in a very uncertain pandemic year.
Addy’s A-Plenty!
The School of Communications, via the BYU AdLab, was awarded 38 ADDY awards in the Utah Chapter of the American Advertising Awards, from 27 different projects, with 10 Gold ADDYs and 28 Silver ADDYS ranging from print ads to tv commercials and everywhere in between, with many awards in the craft of art direction, copywriting, and cinematography.
